Italian validation of the Pelvic Floor Distress Inventory (PFDI-20) questionnaire
ConclusionsThe PFDI-20 allows a comprehensive assessment of the effect of pelvic floor disorders on the quality of life of women. Moreover, the PFDI-20 represents a very solid QoL tool, since it has been extensively used in literature, and its use is highly recommended by the International Consultation on Incontinence. The present study demonstrated good features for the Italian version of the PFDI-20 questionnaire. (Source: International Urogynecology Journal)

Surgeon estimation of retropubic trocar position in blind 3D space
ConclusionsNovices were similar to expert surgeons in their estimation of the trocar ’s location and may have relied more heavily on anticipatory mechanisms to compensate for lack of experience. Teaching surgeons should make sure the novice surgeon trocar pass starts posterior to the bone. (Source: International Urogynecology Journal)

Prevalence of pelvic floor dysfunction in recreational athletes: a cross-sectional survey
ConclusionHigh levels of all PFD were reported but no significant association was found between recreational exercise and symptoms. However, data suggest that women modify their exercise regimes as required. Few symptomatic women sought professional help. (Source: International Urogynecology Journal)

A novel sacral neuromodulation protocol is associated with reduction in removal for device infection
ConclusionsUtilization of a novel SNM infection protocol tailored to a patient ’s preoperative MRSA colonization is associated with a reduction in the overall incidence of explant for device infection while avoiding prolonged postoperative antibiotic regimens.Clinical trial registrationThe study was initiated prior to January 18, 2017 and does not meet the definition of an applicable clinical trial (ACT) as defined in section 402 (J) of the US PHS Act. Comparative anatomy of the ovine and human pelvis for laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy: evaluating the effectiveness of the ovine model
ConclusionsThe ovine model is a valuable tool for surgeons in their learning curve for LSC, allowing for safe and effective practice prior to performing the procedure on patients. The use of the OM can help to improve the quality of life for women affected by pelvic organ prolapse. (Source: International Urogynecology Journal)

Complications following retropubic versus transobturator midurethral synthetic sling placement
ConclusionsSignificant complications after midurethral synthetic sling are overall rare. RPS are associated with a higher rate of perioperative bleeding and sling lysis/excision due to urinary retention, but less likely to be associated with UTI and treatment failure. From thigh to pelvis: female genital prolapse repair with an autologous semitendinosus tendon transplant
ConclusionWomen with uterine prolapse can be treated minimally invasively and with very low morbidity by using the semitendinosus tendon.  The involvement of multiple (five) medical centers confirms that the technique is easy to learn and be transferred to other clinical centers. Current status of patient-reported outcome measures and other subjective assessment grading tools in bladder pain syndrome
ConclusionsPatient-reported outcome measures are a valuable tool for use in the long-term management of patients burdened with BPS. There are now several disease-specific PROMs in use that have their respective advantages and disadvantages. Their use should be encouraged in future research as well as continued efforts to develop new PROMs that can address current shortcomings. (Source: International Urogynecology Journal)

Robotically assisted laparoscopic lateral suspension: a step-by-step approach aiming to standardize a novel procedure
ConclusionsRobotically assisted laparoscopic lateral suspension is a safe alternative to laparoscopic and robotically assisted laparoscopic sacropexy and very well suited for uterine-preserving POP surgery. This video contributes to the standardization of this procedure, and we believe our video to be useful in helping urogynecologists to perform this innovative procedure. Surgical teaching of the retropubic midurethral sling: a virtual reality training system
ConclusionThis is one of the first noncadaveric, nonstatic models available in the field. It allows for multiple low-risk exercises and provides more surgeons with training outside the operating room, at their own institution, and avoids the need for patient subjects. Training can be disseminated at a significantly lower cost and greater convenience than remote cadaver laboratories or intraoperative observation and has a higher fidelity than available static models, particularly after multiple passes. This has implications not only for retropubic midurethral slings but also for urogynecological and “blind” surgery as a...
