Not Everyone Benefits Equally from Sunday Alcohol Sales Bans: Socioeconomic Differences in Alcohol Consumption and Alcohol-Attributable Mortality
We examined socioeconomic variations in the association of off-premises Sunday alcohol sales bans and alcohol consumption and alcohol-attributable mortality in the United States. We analyzed associations between Sunday sales ban presence and alcohol consumption patterns, allowing for a differential effect by education in fixed-effects regression models using data from the 2000 –2019 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System. Mortality data from the National Vital Statistics System (2000–2019) were analyzed in interrupted time-series analysis to test the effect of lifting the Sunday sales ban in Minnesota (07/01/2017) ...

Unique Psychological Mechanisms Underlying Psilocybin Therapy Versus Escitalopram Treatment in the Treatment of Major Depressive Disorder
AbstractThe mechanisms by which Psilocybin Therapy (PT) improves depression remain an important object of study, with scientists actively exploring acute psychological experiences and neurobiological processes as candidates. In a phase 2, double-blind, randomized, active comparator controlled trial involving patients with moderate-to-severe major depressive disorder, we investigated whether acute psychological experiences could meaningfully account for the unique efficacy of PT versus Escitalopram Treatment over a core 6-week trial period. An exploratory-factor-analysis-derived single-factor of depression was used as the o...

Binge Drinking and its Relationship with Suicidal Thoughts and Suicidal Attempts in University Students
AbstractBinge drinking, notably common among university students, poses health risks. Despite a significant global concern about suicide, especially among young people, research on the connection between binge drinking and suicide in university students is limited. This cross-sectional study investigated the relationship between binge drinking, suicidal attempts, and suicidal thoughts among university students from two institutions. Among the 2178 participants from public universities, 4.0% reported suicidal attempts, and 26.5% reported suicidal thoughts. Binge drinking did not show a significant association with suicidal ...

Unraveling the Link Between Complex Post-traumatic Stress Symptoms and Addictive Behaviors in Adolescents: A Network Analysis
This study adopted a psychopathology network approach to explore which post-traumatic symptoms were explicitly associated with SBAs in a sample of late adolescents. We hypothesized that cPTSD symptoms would be particularly relevant to explain the comorbidity between PTSD and SBAs. A sample of 1010 late adolescents provided measures of post-traumatic symptomatology, cannabis and alcohol abuse, problematic internet use, and gambling. We estimated the network structure of PTSD/cPTSD symptoms and SBAs and assessed their bridge centrality indices. The results suggest that the SBAs had the highest bridge connections with the cPT...

A Latent Class Analysis of Age at Substance Use Initiation in Young Adults and its Association with Mental Health
This study aims to identify empirically-driven classes of age-of-onset across multiple substances (alcohol, tobacco, cannabis) and to characterize the different classes in relation to mental health and substance use severity. The sample comprised 1,051 young adults (aged 18 –25; 61.9% women), recruited from universities and vocational schools in Spain, who reported lifetime alcohol, tobacco and cannabis use. Participants were asked to complete questionnaires about demographics, substance use and mental health. A latent class analysis (LCA) was conducted using the age of onset of alcohol, tobacco, and cannabis use as an i...
