Expert Opinion on Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy for People with Psychopathological Psychotic Experiences and Psychotic Disorders
This study sought to determine why such an exclusion exists, what the implications of the exclusion criteria are, and if there was agreement in expert opinion. In-depth interviews with 12 experts in the fields of psychiatry, clinical psychology, medicine, and the effects of psychedelics were conducted in an expert consultation format. Interviews were transcribed, and themes were produced using an interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) approach. We found that while the exclusion criteria may be justified for psychedelic protocols that provide minimal psychological support for participants, experts agreed that psyche...

Uncovering Polysubstance Use Patterns in Canadian Youth with Machine Learning on Longitudinal COMPASS Data
This study aims to investigate PSU patterns in a large sample of Canadian youth and explore associated factors using data from COMPASS, a longitudinal health survey of Canadian secondary school students. The study sample consisted of 8824 students from grades 9 and 10 at baseline in 2016/17, followed over 3 years until 2018/19. Leveraging machine learning methods, especially the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) and multivariate latent Markov models, we conducted a comprehensive examination of PSU patterns. Our analyses revealed distinct PSU patterns among Canadian youth, including no-use (C1), alcoho...

Psychedelics and Racial Justice
AbstractPsychedelics are being studied for the treatment of numerous mental health disorders, as well as a means of bringing people together. Nonetheless, people of color and those with other marginalized identities have not been fully included. Studies and research on psychedelic-assisted therapies have largely excluded people of color, leaving out fundamental clinical issues for these populations. This paper provides a narrative review of relevant research on this topic, racial trauma, ethnic minority mental health, and how psychedelic therapies can advance recovery for people of color. It also discusses potential harms ...

‘Secrecy, Trust, Safety’: a Multi-stakeholder Situation Assessment of Gendered and Contextual Vulnerabilities and Service Level Responsiveness to the Needs of Women Who Use Drugs in Egypt
AbstractWomen account for one in every three people who use drugs worldwide and tend to progress to drug use disorders in a shorter time than men. There is limited understanding of the situation of women who use drugs in the Middle East and North Africa. A multi-stakeholder rapid situation assessment (RSA) was conducted which aimed to investigate gendered and contextual vulnerabilities and service level responsiveness to the needs of women who use drugs (WWUD) in Egypt. An updated profile of female service user characteristics was sought via mapping of addiction and harm reduction services in the National Drug Observatory ...

Testing the Relationships Between Multiple Domains of Substance Use-Related Stigma and Depression Among a Sample of Young (18 –30-Year-Old) People Who Inject Drugs in the Greater Chicago Area
AbstractDespite increases in injection drug use, depression, and fatal overdose among young people (aged 18 –30) during the last 15–20 years, and despite literature among other populations finding relationships between various types of stigma and mental health outcomes, to date, there have been no studies examining the relationship between substance use-related stigma and depression among young people who inject drugs (PWID), specifically. The present study examined baseline data from a longitudinal study of young (18–30-year-old) PWID and their risk network members of any age. Multiple linear regression was used to ...

Exploring Patterns of Alcohol Consumption in Adolescence: the Role of Health Complaints and Psychosocial Determinants in an Italian Sample
AbstractAdolescents are particularly prone to engage in health-risk behaviors such as alcohol and substance use, which can significantly impact their present and future lives. Our study explores the factors contributing to (1) regular alcohol use (i.e., at least 3 to 5 times in the last 30 days) and (2) binge drinking (i.e., drinking at least five glasses of alcohol in a single sitting in the last 12 months) in adolescents, in the 2014 and 2018 waves of the Health Behavior in School-Aged Children (HBSC) survey conducted in the Lombardy region, Italy. Data collection used a stratified cluster sampling method to obtain a rep...

Nomophobia Questionnaire (NMP-Q) Across China, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Iran: Confirmatory Factor Analysis, Measurement Invariance, and Network Analysis
AbstractThe popularity and advancement of smartphones generate a new phenomenon of smartphone addiction. To promote early identification of individuals at risk of smartphone addiction, healthcare providers could assess if an individual has nomophobia (i.e., anxiety and worry of having no smartphone at hand). The present study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Nomophobia Questionnaire (NMP-Q) across four countries: China, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Iran. Via cross-sectional design and convenience sampling, 7871 participants (5969 Chinese, 534 Bangladeshi, 666 Pakistani, and 702 Iranian) completed the NMP-Q...

Evolution of Marijuana Research at the Biopsychosocial Level: a General View
AbstractIn recent years, there have been important changes related to marijuana use at the therapeutic, legislative, and social levels. Our goal is to know how they have influenced scientific research through the articles published in the Health Sciences journals in the last two decades (2001 –2020). Marijuana articles included in the Web of Science Core Collection were retrieved, including their PubMed identifier (PMID) which was used to check whether these articles were also indexed in PubMed, obtaining a total of 36,982 documents. After, their descriptive terms (MeSH) on the specifi c branches of Chemicals and Drugs, ...
