Clinical use and applications of histone deacetylase inhibitors in multiple myeloma
Nidhi Tandon, Vijay Ramakrishnan, Shaji K Kumar Division of Hematology, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, USA Abstract: The incorporation of various novel therapies has resulted in a significant survival benefit in newly diagnosed and relapsed patients with multiple myeloma (MM) over the past decade. Despite these advances, resistance to therapy leads to eventual relapse and fatal outcomes in the vast majority of patients. Hence, there is an unmet need for new safe and efficacious therapies for continued improvement in outcomes. Given the role of epigenetic aberrations in the pathogenesis and progression of MM and the success o...

Differential pharmacology and clinical utility of empagliflozin in type 2 diabetes
Kashif M Munir,1 Stephen N Davis2 1Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Nutrition, Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology, 2Department of Medicine, University of Maryland School of Medicine, Baltimore, MD, USA Abstract: With rates of obesity and diabetes rising across the world, effective therapies to treat hyperglycemia and its associated comorbidities continue to be in demand. Empagliflozin is a highly selective sodium glucose transporter-2 inhibitor that improves serum glucose levels by inducing glucosuria. Taken orally, it is rapidly absorbed with linear pharmacokinetics consistent in Asian and Caucasian population...

Pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic analysis of teicoplanin in patients with MRSA infections
Conclusion: These results suggest that an AUC24/MIC ratio of ≥900 µg·h/mL is required to ensure a sufficient bacteriological response. Keywords: teicoplanin, PK/PD, AUC/MIC, MRSA (Source: International Journal of COPD)

Pharmacokinetics of daclizumab high-yield process with repeated administration of the clinical subcutaneous regimen in patients with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis
Conclusion: The PK of DAC HYP in patients with RRMS are consistent with those previously reported in healthy volunteers. The half-life of ~3 weeks and the low fluctuations in peak and trough concentrations of serum DAC HYP support the once-monthly SC dosing regimen. Pharmacokinetics and safety of posaconazole delayed-release tablets for invasive fungal infections
Nathan P Wiederhold Departments of Pathology and Medicine/Infectious Diseases, University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, South Texas Reference Laboratories, San Antonio, TX, USA Abstract: Posaconazole is a broad-spectrum triazole antifungal agent with potent activity against various pathogenic fungi, including yeast and moulds. Clinical studies have demonstrated that this agent is efficacious as prophylaxis against invasive fungal infections in patients at high risk, and may also be useful as salvage therapy against invasive aspergillosis and mucormycosis. However, the bioavailability of posaconazole follo...

NMDA receptors are expressed in human ovarian cancer tissues and human ovarian cancer cell lines
William G North, Fuli Liu, Ruiyang Tian, Hamza Abbasi, Bonnie Akerman Department of Physiology and Neurobiology, Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College, Lebanon, NH, USA Abstract: We have earlier demonstrated that breast cancer and small-cell lung cancer express functional NMDA receptors that can be targeted to promote cancer cell death. Human ovarian cancer tissues and human ovarian cancer cell lines (SKOV3, A2008, and A2780) have now been shown to also express NMDA-receptor subunit 1 (GluN1) and subunit 2B (GluN2B). Seventeen ovarian cancers in two arrays were screened by immunohistochemistry using polyclonal an...

Addition of a renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system inhibitor to a calcium channel blocker ameliorates arterial stiffness
Conclusion: Long-term administration of a CCB alone increased the CAVI, but this effect was offset by the concomitant use of a RAAS inhibitor, indicating that a RAAS inhibitor might protect against arteriosclerosis.
