Pretreatment antithrombotic strategies in non-ST elevation acute coronary syndromes in contemporaneous clinical practice
CONCLUSION: NSTE-ACS patients pretreated with SAPT had worse in-hospital outcomes. This difference can be probably explained by a delay in time until revascularization. Pretreatment DAPT strategy and crossover between heparins is still frequently used in clinical practice.PMID:37956770 | DOI:10.1016/j.hjc.2023.11.003 (Source: Hellenic Journal of Cardiology)

Prognostic impact of diabetes mellitus on in-hospital mortality in patients with acute myocardial infarction complicating renal dysfunction according to age and sex
CONCLUSIONS: There were significant differences in the prognostic impact of DM on in-hospital mortality between young and old as well as male and female patients with AMI complicating RD. These results have implications for future research and the management of patients with DM, RD, and AMI comorbidities.PMID:37956769 | DOI:10.1016/j.hjc.2023.11.002 (Source: Hellenic Journal of Cardiology)

Clinical impact of coronary revascularization over medical treatment in chronic coronary syndromes: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: The present analysis showed lower rates of CV mortality and myocardial infarction in CCS patients treated with myocardial revascularization compared to OMT. This benefit was larger with increasing follow-up duration. Personalized treatment based on patient characteristics and lesion complexity may optimize clinical outcomes in patients with CCS.PMID:37949356 | DOI:10.1016/j.hjc.2023.10.003 (Source: Hellenic Journal of Cardiology)

Impact of left ventricular end-diastolic pressure as a marker for diastolic dysfunction on long-term outcomes in patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve replacement Impact of LVEDP on TAVR outcomes
CONCLUSION: Elevated post-procedural LVEDP in patients who undergo TAVR is an independent predictor of all-cause mortality. Furthermore, PH, and tricuspid regurgitation were also identified as predictors for mortality. This data confirms that diastolic dysfunction is an important predictor for mortality in TAVR and should be considered to guide procedure timing favoring an early interventional approach and management in aortic stenosis patients.PMID:37944865 | DOI:10.1016/j.hjc.2023.10.005 (Source: Hellenic Journal of Cardiology)

Impact of reduced apolipoprotein A-I levels on pulmonary arterial hypertension
CONCLUSION: Our study identified the significance of ApoA-I as a biomarker for predicting the survival outcome of PAH patients, which might relate to its altered anti-inflammatory properties.PMID:37940001 | DOI:10.1016/j.hjc.2023.10.004 (Source: Hellenic Journal of Cardiology)

Significant unfavorable geometrical changes in ascending aorta despite stable diameter at follow-up
CONCLUSIONS: Maximum diameter provides a local description for the ascending aorta and cannot fully portray the pathological process across this vessel. Following-up the diameter is not suggestive of length, surface, volume and tortuosity changes.PMID:37931701 | DOI:10.1016/j.hjc.2023.10.007 (Source: Hellenic Journal of Cardiology)

The role of patient-oriented mHealth interventions in improving Heart Failure outcomes: a systematic review of the literature
Hellenic J Cardiol. 2023 Nov 3:S1109-9666(23)00199-9. doi: 10.1016/j.hjc.2023.11.001. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHeart failure (HF) is a debilitating disease with 26 million patients worldwide. Consistent and complex self-care is required on the part of patients to adequately adhere to medication and to the lifestyle changes the disease necessitates. Mobile health (mHealth) is being increasingly incorporated in patient interventions in HF, as smartphones prove ideal platforms for patient education and self-help assistance. This systematic review aims to summarize and report on all studies that have tested the effect of ...
