Impact of coronary artery disease in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
CONCLUSIONS: This study showed a worse prognosis among HCM patients with severe CAD than among HCM patients without severe CAD. Therefore, timely recognition of severe CAD in HCM patients and appropriate treatment are important.PMID:37567561 | DOI:10.1016/j.hjc.2023.08.002 (Source: Hellenic Journal of Cardiology)

Impact of quercetin in patients with myocardial infarction. A multicenter, randomized, open label pilot study
CONCLUSION: Our pilot study is the first to demonstrate novel insight into ischemia/reperfusion damage in STEMI patients. The addition of quercetin to standard STEMI therapy limits infarct size and prevents intramyocardial hemorrhage after the first anterior STEMI. Further research will be necessary to both validate and expand upon these findings.PMID:37567562 | DOI:10.1016/j.hjc.2023.08.004 (Source: Hellenic Journal of Cardiology)

Is it time for a retinoic acid eluting stent or a retinoic acid-coated balloon? Insights from experimental studies of systemic and local delivery of retinoids
Hellenic J Cardiol. 2023 Aug 9:S1109-9666(23)00140-9. doi: 10.1016/j.hjc.2023.08.003. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRestenosis and stent thrombosis, although they have been substantially declined during the last decades, still constitute the two major causes of stent failure. These complications are partially attributed to the currently used cytostatic drugs which can cause local inflammation, can delay or prevent re-endothelialization and essentially exert toxicity on the arterial cells. Retinoic acid (RA), a vitamin A (retinol) derivative, is a naturally occurring substance used for the treatment of cell proliferation di...

The impact of renal function on the three-year outcomes in patients with myocardial infarction with nonobstructive coronary arteries
CONCLUSIONS: Regardless of renal function, the MINOCA and MIOCA groups had comparable mortality rates. However, patients with MINOCA and CKD had higher NCD rates. Close monitoring of renal function and enhanced strategies are required to reduce mortality in patients with MINOCA.PMID:37562692 | DOI:10.1016/j.hjc.2023.08.001 (Source: Hellenic Journal of Cardiology)

Association between Ultra-processed Foods Consumption and the Risk of Hypertension: an Umbrella Review of Systematic Reviews
CONCLUSION: High UPF consumption is associated with an increased risk of hypertension. However, well-conducted SRs including high-quality prospective cohort studies are needed to further verify these findings.PMID:37543089 | DOI:10.1016/j.hjc.2023.07.010 (Source: Hellenic Journal of Cardiology)
