Analysis of the degree of implementation of medication error prevention practices in Spanish hospitals (2022)
CONCLUSIONS: There has been appreciable progress in the degree of implementation of some medication error prevention practices in Spanish hospitals, but many proven efficacy practices recommended by the World Health Organization and safety organizations are still poorly implemented. The information obtained can be useful for prioritizing the practices to be addressed and as a new baseline for monitoring progress.PMID:37778905 | DOI:10.1016/j.farma.2023.08.008 (Source: Farmacia Hospitalaria)

Validated medication deprescribing instruments for patients with palliative care needs a systematic review
CONCLUSIONS: Despite the availability of several instruments to support deprescribing in patients with palliative care needs, only 1 of them has undergone validation and robust assessment for effectiveness in clinical practice. The STOPPFrail tool appears to reduce the number of inappropriate medications for older people with limited life expectancy (and probably palliative care needs) and decrease the monthly costs of pharmacotherapy. Nevertheless, the impact on patient safety and humanistic outcomes remain unclear.PMID:37770284 | DOI:10.1016/j.farma.2023.08.004 (Source: Farmacia Hospitalaria)

DPYD genotyping and 5-fluoropyrimidine toxicity: An overview of systematic reviews protocol
Farm Hosp. 2023 Sep 25:S1130-6343(23)00693-1. doi: 10.1016/j.farma.2023.08.009. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: The increased risk of severe and life-threatening toxicity in patients with dihydropyridine dehydrogenase (DPD) deficiency, under treatment with fluoropyrimidines, has been widely studied. An up-to-date overview of systematic reviews summarizing existing literature can add value by highlighting most relevant information and supports decision-making regarding treatment in DPD deficient patients. The main objective of this overview of systematic reviews is to identify published systematic reviews on the...
