Ultrasound and cytopathological characteristics of thyroid tumours of uncertain malignant potential - from diagnosis to treatment
CONCLUSIONS: The study indicates that lesions with uncertain malignant potential typically present features suggesting low to intermediate risk of malignancy based on EU-TIRADS-PL classification, with dominant cytopathologic Bethesda IV category. However, 20% of lesions were assessed tas EU-TIRADS-PL category 5. Low-risk tumours, including NIFTP, FT-UMP, and WDT-UMP, require careful observation and monitoring post surgical treatment due to their potential for recurrence and metastasis. The preoperatively prediction of borderline tumour may play an important role in proper treatment and follow-up.PMID:38646986 | DOI:10.5603...

Elevated serum irisin levels in boys with central precocious puberty independent of BMI
CONCLUSIONS: Serum irisin levels correlate with BMI and pubertal development. Given its limited sensitivity, irisin level can only be utilised as a supplementary rather than a standalone diagnostic indicator for CPP.PMID:38646987 | DOI:10.5603/ep.98509 (Source: Endokrynologia Polska)

Clinical predictive value of Control attenuation parameters in combination with miR-192-5p in patients with acute pancreatitis in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease
CONCLUSIONS: NAFLD exacerbated the progression of AP, and CAP combined with miR-192-5p could predict the severity of AP. Our study may provide more reference for AP disease progression and treatment.PMID:38646989 | DOI:10.5603/ep.98765 (Source: Endokrynologia Polska)

Human papillomavirus and Epstein-Barr virus infection in benign thyroid lesions
CONCLUSION: The occurrence and development of benign thyroid lesions are closely related to EBV infection. HT combined with thyroid adenoma may be more susceptible to EBV infection than simple HT and thyroid adenoma, which provides a new idea for the diagnosis and treatment of benign thyroid lesions.PMID:38646990 | DOI:10.5603/ep.99339 (Source: Endokrynologia Polska)

Establishment of pregnancy-specific lipid reference intervals in pregnant women in a single-centre and assessment of the predictive value of early lipids for gestational diabetes mellitus: a prospective cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: This study established pregnancy-specific lipid RI for pregnant women in a single centre in the Beijing area of China. Pregnant women with TG ≥ 2.375 mmol/L in the first trimester were at significantly increased risk for GDM.PMID:38646991 | DOI:10.5603/ep.98554 (Source: Endokrynologia Polska)

Acoustic outcomes and voice-related quality of life in male-to-female transsexuals undergoing Wendler glottoplasty: a single-centre experience
CONCLUSIONS: WG constitutes an effective method of surgical voice feminisation in male-to-female transsexuals with concurrent improvement in their voice-related QoL. Furthermore, it remains a safe procedure without persistent complications and negative influence on the acoustic-aerodynamic measures of the voice.PMID:38497370 | DOI:10.5603/ep.98899 (Source: Endokrynologia Polska)

Diabetic gastroparesis: a disease for which long-term therapeutic benefits are difficult to obtain
Endokrynol Pol. 2024 Mar 18. doi: 10.5603/ep.97086. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe pathophysiology of diabetic gastroparesis (DGP), a common complication in diabetic patients, is not fully known. Its development has been linked to several causes, including hyperglycaemia, vagal nerve dysfunction, aberrant Cajal's interstitial cell network (ICC), lack of nerve nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) expression in the intermuscular plexus, and hormonal alterations in the gastrointestinal tract. Glucose management, diet control, gastric stimulants, anti-emetic medications, Helicobacter pylori eradication, stomach electrical stimulati...

Modifiable risk factors for thyroid cancer: lifestyle and residence environment
This article endeavours to elucidate the correlation between lifestyle, residential environment, and the increased prevalence of thyroid cancer in recent years. It specifies the frequency of the lifestyle and outlines the scope of the residential environment. It also endeavours to summarise the main mechanistic pathways of various modifiable risk factors that cause thyroid cancer. Factors that prevent thyroid cancer include smoking and alcohol consumption, quality and regular sleep, consumption of cruciferous vegetables and dairy products, and consistent long-term exercise. Conversely, individuals with specific genetic mut...

Differential diagnosis of thyroid orbitopathy - diseases mimicking the presentation or activity of thyroid orbitopathy
Endokrynol Pol. 2024;75(1):1-11. doi: 10.5603/ep.98156.ABSTRACTThyroid orbitopathy (TO) is the most common cause of orbital tissue inflammation, accounting for about 60% of all orbital inflammations. The inflammatory activity and severity of TO should be diagnosed based on personal experience and according to standard diagnostic criteria. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the orbit is used not only to identify swelling and to differentiate inflammatory active from non-active TO, but also to exclude other pathologies, such as orbital tumours or vascular lesions. However, a group of diseases can mimic the clinical manifest...

p53-associated miRNAs repress lncRNA ZFAS1 to retard the proliferation of papillary thyroid carcinoma
CONCLUSION: The oncogenic lncRNA ZFAS1 is directly repressed by p53 in PTC. p53-mediated miRNAs including miR-135b 5p, miR-193a-3p, and miR-34b repress ZFAS1 expression, and thereby inhibit the proliferation of PTC.PMID:38497385 | DOI:10.5603/ep.97567 (Source: Endokrynologia Polska)

MYB/LINC00092 regulatory axis promotes the progression of papillary thyroid carcinoma
CONCLUSIONS: Our study validated that LINC00092 is a tumour suppressor lncRNA in PTC. MYB directly or indirectly represses LINC00092, which contributes to the PTC progression. MYB, LINC00092, and miR-4741 form a coherent feed forward loop. The axis of MYB-LINC00092 promotes progression of PTC.PMID:38497387 | DOI:10.5603/ep.98120 (Source: Endokrynologia Polska)
