Modifiable risk factors for thyroid cancer: lifestyle and residence environment
This article endeavours to elucidate the correlation between lifestyle, residential environment, and the increased prevalence of thyroid cancer in recent years. It specifies the frequency of the lifestyle and outlines the scope of the residential environment. It also endeavours to summarise the main mechanistic pathways of various modifiable risk factors that cause thyroid cancer. Factors that prevent thyroid cancer include smoking and alcohol consumption, quality and regular sleep, consumption of cruciferous vegetables and dairy products, and consistent long-term exercise. Conversely, individuals with specific genetic mut...

Differential diagnosis of thyroid orbitopathy - diseases mimicking the presentation or activity of thyroid orbitopathy
Endokrynol Pol. 2024;75(1):1-11. doi: 10.5603/ep.98156.ABSTRACTThyroid orbitopathy (TO) is the most common cause of orbital tissue inflammation, accounting for about 60% of all orbital inflammations. The inflammatory activity and severity of TO should be diagnosed based on personal experience and according to standard diagnostic criteria. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the orbit is used not only to identify swelling and to differentiate inflammatory active from non-active TO, but also to exclude other pathologies, such as orbital tumours or vascular lesions. However, a group of diseases can mimic the clinical manifest...

p53-associated miRNAs repress lncRNA ZFAS1 to retard the proliferation of papillary thyroid carcinoma
CONCLUSION: The oncogenic lncRNA ZFAS1 is directly repressed by p53 in PTC. p53-mediated miRNAs including miR-135b 5p, miR-193a-3p, and miR-34b repress ZFAS1 expression, and thereby inhibit the proliferation of PTC.PMID:38497385 | DOI:10.5603/ep.97567 (Source: Endokrynologia Polska)

lncRNA HCG22 regulated cell growth and metastasis of papillary thyroid cancer via negatively modulating miR-425-5p
CONCLUSIONS: HCG22 served as a tumour promoter in PTC cells, which regulated cell proliferation and metastasis via negatively regulating miR-425-5p.PMID:38497386 | DOI:10.5603/ep.97425 (Source: Endokrynologia Polska)

MYB/LINC00092 regulatory axis promotes the progression of papillary thyroid carcinoma
CONCLUSIONS: Our study validated that LINC00092 is a tumour suppressor lncRNA in PTC. MYB directly or indirectly represses LINC00092, which contributes to the PTC progression. MYB, LINC00092, and miR-4741 form a coherent feed forward loop. The axis of MYB-LINC00092 promotes progression of PTC.PMID:38497387 | DOI:10.5603/ep.98120 (Source: Endokrynologia Polska)

Low triiodothyronine syndrome and depression: a cross-sectional study in the elderly based on comprehensive geriatric assessment
CONCLUSIONS: LT3S was closely related to depression and malnutrition. Physicians should be more concerned about elderly patients with LT3S for their physical and mental status. Regular thyroid function checks might help to detect depression earlier.PMID:38497389 | DOI:10.5603/ep.97956 (Source: Endokrynologia Polska)

The prevalence of obesity and relationship between obesity indicators and chronic diseases in Northern Shaanxi, China
CONCLUSION: The problem of overweight, obesity, and central obesity in adults is serious in northern Shaanxi, China. Obesity of all types will increase the risk of chronic diseases. Therefore, a variety of preventive and therapeutic measures should be adopted to curb obesity and reduce the incidence of related chronic diseases.PMID:38497392 | DOI:10.5603/ep.96227 (Source: Endokrynologia Polska)

Association of anti-M üllerian hormone and insulin resistance in adolescent girls with polycystic ovary syndrome
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings show that AMH is an independent determinant of IR in PCOS adolescents, and the fasting insulin level is closely associated with the AMH level, which indicates that the AMH pathway might play a role in the development of IR in PCOS adolescents. The interaction between AMH and IR in PCOS girls warrants further large-scale evaluation.PMID:38497393 | DOI:10.5603/ep.96323 (Source: Endokrynologia Polska)

Prevalence of endocrine disorders in 304 premenopausal women referred with oligomenorrhoea
CONCLUSIONS: We found higher prevalence of CS in patients with oligomenorrhoea even in the absence of clinical signs. Therefore, we suggest routine screening for CS during the evaluation of patients with oligomenorrhoea and/or PCOS. The likelihood of CS is greater in patients with high androgen, especially DHEA-S levels.PMID:38497394 | DOI:10.5603/ep.96737 (Source: Endokrynologia Polska)

Prediction of disease recurrence in patients after complete pancreatic NET (PanNET) G2 resection
CONCLUSION: For the group of PanNET G2 patients after radical surgery, the overall risk of recurrence was 36.36%, with the highest rate in the first 5 years after surgery, but in individual cases it occurred significantly later, even 10 years after surgery. The most important predictive factors of the PanNET G2 recurrence was Ki-67 over 5.75% and size of tumour > 4 cm.PMID:38497396 | DOI:10.5603/ep.98635 (Source: Endokrynologia Polska)
