The Role of Energy-Based Devices in Male Body Contouring
Energy-based devices extend the indications of traditional procedures in male body contouring. Devices currently available in this space may be noninvasive or minimally invasive. These devices use heat to destroy fat or tighten soft tissue and electromagnetic energy to build muscle mass. Thoughtful deployment of these technologies in isolation or in combination with each other or more traditional approaches can improve outcomes in male body contouring without an increase in scar burden. Patient selection and education are essential in maximizing satisfaction with these procedures. (Source: Clinics in Plastic Surgery)

The Male Abdominoplasty
Although body contouring has long been considered a female-dominated market, growing popularity among men has led to shifting market focus. The increase in male body contouring surgery has been fueled by increased recognition of its safety and efficacy, decreased stigma via social media awareness, and increasing desire among men who seek to remain competitive in the workforce. The growth of bariatric surgery has only compounded such trends, with a growing population of men seeking excisional procedures following massive weight loss. The authors review key features of the modern male abdominoplasty, with respect to anatomy,...

High-Definition Liposuction in Men
Liposuction is the most common procedure in plastic surgery and becoming increasingly common in male patients. Recently, liposuction has evolved from a procedure whose goal was primarily fat extraction, to one that sculpts tissue with the goal of enhancing muscular definition. Plastic Surgery in Men
Historically, when reviewing the aesthetic literature, men did not represent a distinct entity; they were infrequently written about and actually more often an afterthought. Techniques devoted exclusively to men were rarely described. Rather, procedures used in the preponderance of our female patients were adapted to men, all while knowing the special challenges and often higher complication rates that men exhibit. Over the last few decades, patients and society inevitably changed and evolved; cultural norms and morals shifted, and a notable rise in men seeking cosmetic enhancement ensued. Male Plastic Surgery: The Current State-of-the-Art
Back in 2004, when I finished my Plastic Surgery Residency at the NYU and started my practice, I really had felt that I was fortunate enough to have had excellent training in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. With the esteemed professors at NYU, and particularly Manhattan Eye and Ear Attendings that taught us so many of the greatest techniques in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, I thought I was quite prepared to operate —on women.
