“Hear my Voice”: Subjective Well-Being Scale for Young Children (SWB-YC)
This study aims to develop a subjective well-being scale in line with what young children care about. The subjective well-being scale in this study consists of three dimensions: Positive Relationships with Others, Life Standard, and Life Satisfaction. The subjective well-being scale fo r young children is a semi-structured, self-reported, and designed for all daily living environments, regardless of a single environment. Subjective well-being scale shows good psychometric properties. By discussing the dimensions, the factors that are important in the subjective well-being of young children are revealed. Synthesising Hedonic and Eudaimonic Approaches: A Culturally Responsive Four-Factor Model of Aggregate Subjective Well-Being for Hong Kong Children
AbstractThis paper tested a culturally responsive four-factor model of aggregate subjective well-being (SWB). Hedonic SWB is often presented as the definitive articulation of SWB, whilst overlooking the impact of Eudaimonic well-being (EWB) on Aggregate SWB. Moreover, children from Confucian Heritage Cultures (CHC) are reported as having lower levels of SWB than children from other countries in studies that principally rely on hedonic instruments, thereby ignoring alternative indicators of well-being. While being a vital childhood indicator, hedonic SWB may not entirely capture the essence of well-being in CHC children who...

Family background and classroom belonging among adolescent students in Finland

We conduct random effect linear probability models with schools as the second-level grouping variable. The results show that family’s low economic situation predicts a higher probability of l...

Rights and overall life satisfaction of 10- and 12-year-old children in three countries
This article includes the third wave of the Children’s Worlds dataset with 7,570 10- and 12-year-old participants (51% girls) from Brazil, Chile and Spain. There are nine rights- related items and a SWB scale (CW-SWBS) used in this analysis. The main results suggest that perceptions related to children’s rights and the opportunities to participate in decisions affecting them in three different contexts (home, school and area where the child lives) significantly contributed to their SWB. Advancing the research into this matter can provide an opportunity to invest in psychosocial interventions that focus on improving chi...

Children ’s Criminal Perception; Lessons from Neurolaw
AbstractIn criminal justice systems, after reaching the initial age there are levels of responsibility dictated by the intellectual development and the type of offense committed. Criminal perception, as intellectual ability, is a factor involved in determining the appropriate way to discipline, punish, or rehabilitate a delinquent child. A child ’s perception of his/her crime committed, therefore, explicitly or implicitly plays a crucial role in juror decision-making when determining the level of criminal responsibility. Generally, perception refers to the cognitive process of the brain by which it is possible to interpr...
