“I’m With my People!”: Perceived Benefits of Participation in a Group Social Skills Intervention for Children and Adolescent Survivors of Brain Tumors
Conclusions This study uncovered additional unique intervention effects not captured by quantitative measures: improved self-control and problem solving and benefits of the group experience in general. Implications for Practice Findings support the need for group socialization opportunities for children with brain tumors. Nurses can promote socializing opportunities for children and adolescent survivors of brain tumors during and after medical treatment ends to prevent social competence deterioration. Positive Psychological Change Following a Cancer Diagnosis in Old Age: A Mixed-Methods Study
Conclusions This mixed-methods study suggests that older adults report positive psychological change and adaptive coping with cancer, demonstrating their high level of emotional resilience. Implications for Practice Mental health screenings should be provided as appropriate, but oncology nurses should also consider the potential for positive psychological change postdiagnosis. The provision of care and social support may need to be modified to accommodate older cancer survivors’ needs. (Source: Cancer Nursing)

Chinese Version of the Psychological Inflexibility in Pain Scale for Cancer Patients Reporting Chronic Pain
Background Cancer-related chronic pain is reported by many patients during treatment. There are very few Chinese tools for measuring psychological inflexibility caused by cancer pain, particularly with regard to psychological processes that might influence pain severity and function disorder during cancer treatment. Objective To culturally adapt the Psychological Inflexibility in Pain Scale (PIPS) to Chinese cancer patients experiencing chronic pain, including the determination of psychometric properties of the translated PIPS. Methods This cross-sectional study included 2 phases: (1) translation and cult...

Nurses' Experiences When Introducing Patient-Reported Outcome Measures in an Outpatient Clinic: An Interpretive Description Study
Conclusions Nurses’ experiences with PROMs depended on the systems’ rationale, resulting in limited capacity to use and explore PROMs. Nurses believed that PROMs might have the potential to support clinical practice, as PROMs added new information about patients’ conditions but also identified needs within supportive care, leaving the potential of PROMs uncertain. Simply introducing PROMs to practice does not necessarily actuate their potential because use of PROMs is dependent on institutional conditions and mandatory tasks are prioritized. Implications for Practice This study contributes knowledge of nur...

Oncology and Palliative Care Nurses’ Knowledge and Attitudes Toward Artificial Nutrition and Hydration for Patients at End of Life in Italy: A Cross-sectional Survey
Conclusions Some misconceptions and a low level of awareness exist among some nurses about ANH. More nursing studies should be conducted and extended to different care settings. Moreover, guidelines should be reinforced with a nursing perspective to better define nurses’ role in the decision-making process on ANH. Implications for Practice This exploration of nurses’ knowledge of and attitudes toward ANH in end-of-life cancer patients can contribute to an understanding of how nurses can be involved in better meeting cancer patients’ nutritional needs at the end of life. The Lived Experience of Persons With Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma in the United States
Conclusions Findings from this study are consistent with other MPM research, noting a high symptom burden, lifestyle changes, and feelings of uncertainty about the future. However, participants also expressed feelings of hope and optimism. Particularly salient to the MPM experience was the role of communication with the healthcare team as well as other persons with MPM. Implications for Practice Timely, coordinated, and personalized care as well as skilled communication should be the cornerstone of care for persons with MPM. Supportive care strategies that address uncertainty, the high symptom burden, feelings o...

Trajectories of Self-reported Physical Functioning and Symptoms in Lung Cancer Survivors
Conclusions In this sample of lung cancer survivors, not all survivors experienced the same rate of self-reported functional decline and those with lower levels of fatigue reported better physical functioning. Implications for Practice Nurses should recognize that some lung cancer survivors may have faster rates of functional declines than others, which may be related to fatigue severity. Early identification and management of fatigue could help avoid or delay future disability. (Source: Cancer Nursing)

Expanding Application of the Long-Term Quality of Life Instrument to the Population of Women Undergoing Treatment of Advanced Breast Cancer
Conclusions The factor structure of the LTQL was consistent with previous findings in long-term female cancer survivors. The instrument has adequate psychometric properties for use among women with advanced breast cancer. Implications for Practice The LTQL can be used to assess the physical, psychosocial, and existential spiritual domains of quality of life among women with advanced breast cancer as well as in long-term female cancer survivors. Assessment of Radiation-Induced Xerostomia: Validation of the Xerostomia Questionnaire in Chinese Patients With Head and Neck Cancer
Conclusions The result provides evidence for the validity and reliability of the XQ in a sample of Chinese patients with HNC. Implications for Practice The XQ can be used in both clinical practice and research as a valuable tool to screen for problems with xerostomia, monitor the xerostomia level, and evaluate the effects of treatment and interventions among patients with HNC. Translation and Validation of the Arabic Version of the Caring Nurse-Patient Interaction Scale–Patient Version (CNPI-23P)
Background Importantly, little is known about the cancer patients’ perceptions about nurses’ caring behaviors in Arab countries (Jordan specifically). This is mainly related to a lack of short Arabic instruments that measure nurse-patient interaction from a caring perspective. Objective To translate and validate an Arabic version of the Caring Nurse-Patient Interaction Scale–Patient Version (CNPI-23P). Methods The CNPI-23 was translated into Arabic using Brislin’s model of translation. A cross-cultural adaptation and psychometric testing were used to collect the data from patients with cancer thro...

Mammography Self-efficacy Scale and Breast Cancer Fear Scale: Psychometric Properties of the Arabic Versions Among Saudi Women
Conclusions This article provided initial evidence of reliability and construct validity for the modified CMSES-Arabic and the CBCFS-Arabic. Implications for Practice Nurses and other allied health professionals can now use these measures to better understand how self-efficacy and fear of BC are related to compliance with cancer screening among Saudi women and in other Arabic-speaking contexts. The scales could also be useful for developing and testing the effectiveness of interventions aimed at improving mammography testing rates. (Source: Cancer Nursing)
