Symptom Clusters Change Over Time in Patients With Lung Cancer During Perichemotherapy
Conclusions Symptom clusters can change during perichemotherapy, showing some stability and differences over time. Implications for Practice An improved understanding of symptom cluster trajectories in patients with lung cancer may facilitate effective assessment, prevention, and management of multiple concurrent symptoms. These findings will help clinicians to develop predictive interventions and reduce the symptom burden of patients undergoing chemotherapy. (Source: Cancer Nursing)

A Randomized Controlled Trial of a Physical Activity Intervention for Self-management of Fatigue in Adolescents and Young Adults With Cancer
Conclusion During chemotherapy, AYAs had variable levels of PA and engaged in mostly light-intensity PA. Their average fatigue level was slightly worse than a national comparison group. Implications for Practice Tailored interventions are needed to promote PA in AYAs as a self-management strategy for fatigue. Enhancing self-efficacy and self-regulation may be important approaches to promote PA. (Source: Cancer Nursing)

Pain Management Experiences Among Hospitalized Postcraniotomy Brain Tumor Patients
Conclusions Many postcraniotomy patients experience their pain as tolerable and/or pain management as satisfying and effective; others experience pain and pain management as challenging. Implications for Practice Clinicians should be attuned to needs of patients with complex pain management experiences and should incorporate good patient/clinician communication. Seeking Divine Intervention to Manage the Advanced Stages of Breast Cancer in Southwestern Nigeria
Conclusion Nurses should provide information and counseling to women and the general public on the etiology and appropriate management of breast abnormalities and include the importance of a spiritual dimension of care. Implications for Practice Findings indicate the need to introduce a spiritual dimension to the care of women with advanced breast cancer. Findings also indicate the need for a comprehensive population-based breast health education. (Source: Cancer Nursing)

Patients’ and Nurses’ Perceptions of the Effectiveness of an Oral Cancer Agent Education Process: A Mixed-Methods Study
Conclusions Overall, patients were satisfied with the education received. They perceived nurses as people who can help them understand the information they have received and manage their treatment and adverse effects. Implications for Practice This study highlighted some important points for an effective educational process: having a nurse to refer to, technical relationship competences, joint visits with physicians, and being available by phone. Experiences of BRCA1/2 Gene Mutation–Positive Women With Cancer in Communicating Genetic Risk to Their Relatives
Conclusion Women with cancer found to have BRCA1/2 gene mutations tended to share their genetic test results within the family. The main motives for sharing test results were the desire to encourage relatives to get tested and moral and ethical convictions. Women needed explicit information regarding cancer risk and risk-reducing strategies to act upon. Implications for Practice The women’s feelings and reflections about the communication process were varied and suggest that personalized genetic risk communication interventions may better support women with BRCA1/2 gene mutations during and after communication...

Treatment Decision Making and Regret in Parents of Children With Incurable Cancer
Conclusion Bereaved parents with a cancer-directed treatment decision are more likely to experience increased regret for their decision than bereaved parents involved in a non–cancer-directed treatment decision. Implications Shared-decision aids should be prepared for young parents with low education to improve disease-related knowledge, accurate risk perceptions, and options congruent with parents’ values. Psychometric and Linguistic Evaluation of a Coping Scale for Breast Cancer Survivors in Taiwan
Conclusions The 24- and 18-item MWCQ-brief versions demonstrate fair psychometric properties to measure adaptability among women with breast cancer in Taiwan. This scale is simple but contains 4 or 3 concepts for coping that can be appropriately used to assess underlying states of adaptation in women with breast cancer. Implications for Practice The MWCQ-brief is a valid and reliable tool to understand the adaptability states of female breast cancer survivors by exploring reactions to the disease. Healthcare professionals can provide appropriate psychosocial interventions based on assessment results. (Source: Cancer Nursing)

Moderating Effect of Posttraumatic Growth on the Relationship Between Social Support and Quality of Life in Colorectal Cancer Patients With Ostomies
Conclusions Findings highlight the significance of social support to improve the quality of life for colorectal cancer patients with an ostomy, particularly those with low levels of PTG. Implications for Practice Screening for patients’ positive cognitive adaptations while living with an ostomy could identify those who might need further social support to improve their quality of life. Further, intensive social support programs might promote the quality of life for colorectal patients with an ostomy, which was found to be effective for those with low levels of PTG. Effect of Head-of-Bed Elevation on Nocturnal Reflux Symptoms of Esophageal Cancer Patients With Esophagectomy and Reconstruction
Conclusions Combined drug and WSP treatment may be beneficial in improving GE reflux symptoms. Implications for Practice Nursing care professionals would suggest patients find a similar WSP to elevate the head of the bed to reduce the severity of nocturnal reflux symptoms after esophagectomy and gastric tube reconstruction. The BRIGHTLIGHT National Survey of the Impact of Specialist Teenage and Young Adult Cancer Care on Caregivers’ Information and Support Needs
Conclusions Caregivers of young people who had no TYA-PTC care have the most unmet information and support needs. Implications for Practice Nurses outside of the TYA-PTC need to be supported by the TYA-PTC in providing information/support for caregivers. When a young person is receiving care in multiple hospitals, nurses need to optimize opportunities for caregivers to be involved in decision making. (Source: Cancer Nursing)

Effects of Evidence-Based Continuing Care Bundle on Health Outcomes in Rectal Cancer Patients With Temporary Stomas: A Multicenter Randomized Controlled Trial
Background The patients with temporary stomas after anterior resection for rectal cancer may experience significant impact on their health outcomes, and hence continuing care is necessary and important for these patients. However, the effects of some single continuing care interventions remain unclear. Continuing care bundle may be an effective approach to address this uncertainty. Objective The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of an evidence-based continuing care bundle on selected health outcomes in patients with temporary stomas after anterior resection for rectal cancer. Methods This w...

What Variables Contribute to the Achievement of a Preferred Home Death for Cancer Patients in Receipt of Home-Based Palliative Care in Canada?
Conclusions Higher intensity of home-based nursing visits and hours of PSW care contribute to the actualization of a preferred home death. Implications for Practice This study has implications for policy decision-makers and healthcare managers. Improving and expanding the provision of home-based PSW and nursing services in palliative home care programs may help patients to actualize a preferred home death. (Source: Cancer Nursing)

Short Versus Long Timing of Flushing of Totally Implantable Venous Access Devices When Not Used Routinely: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
Conclusions Very low-quality evidence suggests that prolonged schedule flushing and locking intervals has no effect on catheter patency. However, because of low number and poor quality of evidence derived from the studies analyzed, findings of this meta-analysis should be interpreted with caution. Implications for Practice No statistically significant difference in occlusion rate between short and long timing of flushing was found. However, further studies are necessary to strengthen the safe implementation of longer intervals in clinical practice. (Source: Cancer Nursing)
