Beliefs of physician directors on the management of devastating brain injuries at the Canadian emergency department and intensive care unit interface: a national site-level survey
CONCLUSION: In our survey of Canadian EM and CCM physician directors, 80% participated in WLSM in the ED for patients with DBI. Despite this, most supported ICU admission to optimize neuroprognostication and patient-centred end-of-life care, including organ donation.PMID:38570415 | DOI:10.1007/s12630-024-02749-7 (Source: Canadian Journal of Anaesthesia)

A randomized comparison of three intubation techniques/tube materials for nasotracheal intubation
CONCLUSIONS: Among the three intubation techniques/tube materials for nasotracheal intubation, the velvet-soft PVC tube provided the highest first-attempt success rate, most expeditious advancement into the oral cavity, and lowest incidence of epistaxis.STUDY REGISTRATION: ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT04695444); first submitted 30 December 2020.PMID:38548948 | DOI:10.1007/s12630-024-02743-z (Source: Canadian Journal of Anaesthesia)

Venous congestion in septic shock quantified with point-of-care ultrasound: a pilot prospective multicentre cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: It is feasible to conduct a definitive observational study exploring the association between venous congestion quantified with POCUS and clinical outcomes in patients with septic shock. We hypothesize that venous congestion may be associated with an increased hazard of receiving RRT.PMID:38548949 | DOI:10.1007/s12630-024-02717-1 (Source: Canadian Journal of Anaesthesia)

Medical students' perspectives on and understanding of anesthesiology: a Canadian cross-sectional survey
CONCLUSIONS: The results of this national survey study show the benefits of including a mandatory clerkship rotation in anesthesiology, namely on increasing positive perceptions of the specialty, while also revealing avenues for future research and insights on how to further optimize a mandatory anesthesiology rotation in clerkship.PMID:38532191 | DOI:10.1007/s12630-024-02751-z (Source: Canadian Journal of Anaesthesia)
