Left atrial cardiomyopathy: Pathophysiological insights, assessment methods and clinical implications
Arch Cardiovasc Dis. 2024 Mar 1:S1875-2136(24)00038-X. doi: 10.1016/j.acvd.2024.02.001. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAtrial cardiomyopathy is defined as any complex of structural, architectural, contractile or electrophysiological changes affecting atria, with the potential to produce clinically relevant manifestations. Most of our knowledge about the mechanistic aspects of atrial cardiomyopathy is derived from studies investigating animal models of atrial fibrillation and atrial tissue samples obtained from individuals who have a history of atrial fibrillation. Several noninvasive tools have been reported to characterize...

The real incidence of sudden death: Fair estimations or futile speculations?
CONCLUSIONS: The incidence of sudden death ranges from 6500 to 27,000 in France according to the calculation methods. This huge difference raises the question of the true current incidence of sudden death, which may have been overestimated previously or may be underestimated in France. More straight prospective surveys are needed to solve this question, because of relevant implications for priorities that should be given to sudden death.PMID:38490843 | DOI:10.1016/j.acvd.2024.01.003 (Source: Archives of Cardiovascular Diseases)

Temporal trends in admission for cardiac rehabilitation after an acute coronary syndrome in France from 2009 to 2021: Persistent sex, age and social disparities
CONCLUSIONS: Despite the health benefits of cardiac rehabilitation, current cardiac rehabilitation attendance after acute coronary syndrome remains insufficient in France, particularly among the elderly, women and socially disadvantaged people.PMID:38458957 | DOI:10.1016/j.acvd.2023.12.008 (Source: Archives of Cardiovascular Diseases)

Left atrial strain analysis and new-onset atrial fibrillation in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction: A prospective echocardiography study
CONCLUSION: NOAF is a frequent complication of STEMI. LASr seems helpful for identifying patients at high risk of NOAF during hospitalization.PMID:38423888 | DOI:10.1016/j.acvd.2024.01.002 (Source: Archives of Cardiovascular Diseases)
