Authentic Movement as a Training Modality for Private Practice Clinicians
AbstractSelf/other differentiation and the ability to work symbolically with clients are considered desirable therapeutic skills for psychotherapists whose theoretical orientations are in the areas of psychodynamic, object relations, analytical psychology, or psychoanalysis. Although supervision and individual psychoanalysis have been recommended to enhance these skills, this study introduces authentic movement as an additional training modality. Embodying Activism: Reconciling Injustice Through Dance/Movement Therapy
AbstractDance/movement therapy (DMT) is a pathway to address oppression in the therapeutic context. The consideration of the body, and its relationship to power and privilege, is crucial as we strive to integrate a social justice lens into the field of DMT. Through an exploration of the literature, including activism, traumatology, and embodiment, we provide a definition of social justice within the field of dance/movement therapy. Trauma is experienced in the body, and oppression is a form of trauma. Social justice DMT is the inclusion of the body in how counselors conceptualize and confront oppression in the therapeutic ...

Moving to Prevent Child Sexual Abuse: Dance/Movement Therapy as Primary Prevention
AbstractChild sexual abuse (CSA) has adverse effects on both the child and the community. While many therapists know of these effects through working with survivors, therapy can and should also be used as a primary prevention tool. Looking at the evolution of CSA prevention efforts, one can see that the field has begun to recognize the importance of community involvement as well as experiential learning. Dance/movement therapy (DMT) may provide the next horizon for addressing these aspects of prevention by building both individual and community resilience through movement and the body. This paper proposes a DMT CSA prevent...

Participatory Transaction in Dance/Movement Therapy
This article has two purposes: (a) to describe the intersections among dance/movement therapy, transpersonal participatory theory, and experiential education; and (b) to discuss the practice insights that arose from the creation of a conference workshop in relation to this theoretical integration. The author presented a workshop in Prague, Czech Republic, at the International Transpersonal Conference (ITC) in September 2017.
