Relational Integrative Psychotherapy and the Discipline of Authentic Movement
This article discusses the discipline of authentic movement relative to concepts drawn from the theory and practice of relational integrative psychotherapy (combining person-centered and psychodynamic models). The Reality of Vulnerable Research: Honoring Humanness Amid a Pandemic
This article describes the journey of a health equity research study that changed course due to challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic and the precarity of the population of focus. Although the mixed methods intervention and dance/movement therapy protocol did not transpire as intended, we gained much relevant insight from the 12-month process. We here highlight the original six-week protocol, recruitment efforts and important clinical observations during the recruitment phase, as well as a detailed synopsis in form of a case study of the one participant who completed the study. We also take a critical look at th...

Mortality, Mortuaries, and Movement - Implications of Dance/Movement Therapy and Death: A Literature Review
AbstractDance/movement therapy (DMT) is a somatic-based psychotherapy approach that can supplement existing therapy techniques or stand on its own as effective psychological treatment. As a growing field, DMT continues to expand its application to different populations. This literature review analyzed the implications of DMT application for individuals who are dying. While the application of DMT with diverse populations has been studied, the literature regarding the application of DMT with dying individuals is slim. Medical, spiritual, and emotional treatment during death have received considerable attention in academic li...

Nine panelists offered a verbal description of their unique stories which were accompanied by videos demonstrating their personal dance/movement expressions. By listening and observing, we had the valuable opportunity to see the resilience of adaptation and acclimation that is inherent in dance/movement therapists from ...

Fun, Fitness, and Relaxation: Using Participatory Research to Explore Dance/Movement Therapy with Women Navigating the Criminal Justice System in Australia
AbstractThis paper communicates findings from a doctoral research project which used dance/movement therapy (DMT) to engage two women navigating the criminal justice system in Australia. A feminist-informed participatory research design was applied to learn about each woman ’s experience and to explore the possible health promoting benefits of community-based DMT. Women serving time on community correctional orders were invited to attend drop-in DMT workshops which were held in a drug and alcohol recovery centre. Participants were invited to offer feedback which was analyzed using reflexive and interpretative methods of ...
