English as a foreign language teachers' burnout: The predicator powers of self-efficacy and well-being
Acta Psychol (Amst). 2024 Mar 18;245:104226. doi: 10.1016/j.actpsy.2024.104226. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEducators have recently garnered significant focus for the crucial role they play, particularly concerning their emotions. These emotions have the potential to either boost their progress in their profession or hinder their progress, like burnout which may trigger or intensify poor mental health and quit the job. Burnout arises from the intermittent occurrence of emotional distress among English as a foreign language (EFL) educators as they fulfill their professional duties. To shed more light on the issue, it is f...

Do STEM women feel ethically and emotionally better prepared for their careers than men?
This study employed an online self-assessment of perceived employability (PE) using a validated instrument and analyzed the data from 2493 STEM students studying at 40 universities globally. The findings, underpinned by Social Cognitive Careers Theory, indicate that female report greater confidence than their male peers in ethical literacy and in some emotional literacy skills; these are understood to be critical soft skills for STEM graduates. This distinction is more pronounced in the natural and physical sciences and within information technology fields. Theoretical contributions and practical implications are discussed...

Correlates of the Dark Tetrad
This study explored demographic, ideological, self-rating and personality traits correlates of the Dark Tetrad (DT4) which measures Narcissism (Special), Machiavellianism (Crafty), Psychopathy (Wild), and Sadism (Mean) traits. In total, 447 adults completed three tests: a bright-side, work-related, personality test (HPTI: High Performance Type Indicator), a dark-side test (Short Dark Tetrad) and a number of self-ratings. Correlations and regressions showed that all four dark traits were associated with low Adjustment (Neuroticism), but also with high Risk-Taking and Competitiveness (low Agreeableness). The various measures...

Personality dimensions, resilience, and depression during COVID-19 pandemic: A one-year longitudinal study
CONCLUSION: The decline in depression rates during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic was influenced by levels of resilience, which acted as a protective factor against the development of depressive symptoms. Notably, Neuroticism and Psychoticism predicted the risk of developing depressive symptoms. Implications for practical intervention in future crisis scenarios suggest the need for public health policy programs featuring personalized interventions that prioritize enhancing resilience.PMID:38493710 | DOI:10.1016/j.actpsy.2024.104229 (Source: Acta Psychologica)

Preparation and persistence of deploying attention to locations or stimulus structures: Evidence from intermixed probe trials
Acta Psychol (Amst). 2024 Mar 16;245:104205. doi: 10.1016/j.actpsy.2024.104205. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAttention can be directed to the global or local level of a visual stimulus (i.e., Navon figure). Previous studies yielded reliable trial-to-trial level switch costs (i.e., worse performance when responding to the other level than on a previous trial), even though level cueing effects indicated anticipatory deployment of attention to the upcoming target level. To investigate the interplay of attentional preparation and persistence, we applied a probe trial method assumed to ensure a high degree of preparation for t...

Emotional wellbeing in teachers
This study examined the relationship between happiness, emotional intelligence, and positive and negative affects in a sample of 344 (121 men 35.17 % and 223 women 64.83 %) trainee teachers, with an average age of 22.36 years. Happiness and affects yielded lower values, which may be related to the age of the participants. All variables under study were found to be correlated, which suggests that they are measuring the same construct: subjective wellbeing. Network analysis indicated that the self-regulation of emotions was the axial factor in the relationship. Finally, it was found that only the factor of emotional intellig...

Motivation, work experience, and teacher performance: A comparative study
This study links a gap in the literature by empirically exploring the impact of teacher motivation on their performance and provides valuable insights into the complex interplay among motivation, work experience, and performance. Practically, it emphasizes the importance of employee motivation and accumulated work experience in enhancing performance. This study attempts to underscore the role of work experience as a moderating variable, thereby contributing to the novel discourse in the educational landscape of the post-pandemic era. The findings demand to identification of diverse organizational developmental drivers as w...
