Can I still apply DO schools? Low MCAT score (GPA: 3.7 and 496).
Hi everyone. Just got my MCAT back yesterday and really stings bad. Was averaging higher on FL's but fell short I guess. Should I apply to a few schools and see if I can be lucky to get in? AACOMAS is verified and all LOR's are in as of now. I feel that I have good activities and solid GPA, but obviously MCAT is holding me back. - Residence: PNW region - GPA 3.7 / sGPA 3.56 - MCAT: 496 (122/124/124/126) - Volunteer clinical: 550 hours with underserved populations (unique experiences) -... Post-doctoral Residency Dilemma
Hello! I am currently on internship and I have been experiencing some issues regarding my next steps. Apologies in advance for being overly vague. I had applied for residency positions in several postdoctoral residency programs. Although I received a decent number of interviews at very good postdoctoral programs, I did not receive an offer from any of my top choices. At some of my highly ranked sites, I came close but lost out at the last minute, which really stings to be honest. I ended... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Moving away from home for the first time for medical school. Any anecdotes/advice to help me with this transition?
Title sums it up. I lived my whole life with my parents at home. I even commuted to college to save money. While we’ve had our fair share of arguments, I wake up every morning with this sting of sadness when I realize that I’ll be leaving my home in a few months to go to medical school. The goal this year was to get into one of the Manhattan giants so I’d be only an hour away by train or car. While I got an interview here and there, things unfortunately didn’t work out. I however did get... Moving away from home for the first time for medical school. Any anecdotes/advice to help me with this transition? (Source:...

Cycle is sadly just about over for me. Any tips on how to improve my app to reapply?
Hi SDN--I am in my gap year and a current MD applicant seeking advice for a possible (and likely) reapplication. This cycle I have received 2 IIs, one of which was my only state school. I got waitlisted at the private school and just got rejected from my state school, only 2 weeks after interviewing there (really stings). Here is a brief rundown of my application for this cycle: MCAT: 511 (130 PS, 127 CARS, 126 BS, 128 psych) GPA: 3.72 overall, 3.68 science. Strong upward trend in GPA... Do any students in clinical years hate formal (collared shirts /ties)
Ive had a loathing for these clothes my whole life. I just hate when the collar rubs against my stubble it actually stings, and I feel suffocated even if Im not wearing a tight collar. I know this sounds like a silly post but someone must have had the same issue I hope (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Got in argument w ED attending over family member care
My dad had an anaphylactic reaction to a couple bee stings the other day (he has a known allergy), necessitating a visit to one of the EDs near where their cabin is located. When he got there, his systolic pressure was something like 80 and he was pretty altered. He was give epi, IVFs, etc. and apparently improved pretty rapidly. Anyway, the er doc (not sure if it was an FM since it's a rural area) wanted to d/c him two hours later because his pressure was back up. I got on the phone and...
