Other Impactful Experience question
Hi everyone, wanted to see if this experience in my life can be included in this section. My grandmother has recently been diagnosed with esophageal cancer and I have been the primary advocate for her in setting up and accompanying her to all her appointments, being the communicator between her and her physicians as she does not speak English, and coordinating her chemo radiation treatments as well. I only ask because one of my letter writers, a physician, mentioned to me that I should... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Case: Esophageal Cancer with weird nodes
Hello! I have a case for you and looking forward to hearing your input. Male patient in his sixties, known history of tobacco use. Now presents with swallowing difficulties and is diagnosed with a cT3 G3 SCC of the thoracic esophagus. No immediate regional nodes affected, but two findings on PET-CT: one node in the uppermost mediastinum (almost SCV) and a few other nodes grouped together in the coeliac region. The first biopsy of the tumor was negative and compliance was an issue, so it... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Neoadjuvant FLOT/MAGIC vs. CROSS in Distal Esophageal
I'm at a major academic center and the other day it was suggested that we should start considering neoadjuvant chemo alone for distal esophageal cancers based on this abstract at ASCO. Every single reported metric in the table below was superior for CROSS and yet the conclusion was "the data strongly suggests non-inferiority and equipoise." When us doom and gloomers talk about the declining indications for radiation it's because of things like this. We're perpetually one successful chemo... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

IMRT for esophagus and lung
do you guys routinely utilize IMRT for esophageal and stage III lung cancers for patients with private insurance? If you always do IMRT - do you always submit a 3D comparison plan and what kind of metrics do you make sure to demonstrate to justify IMRT? (v20 percentage drop, etc) thanks (Source: Student Doctor Network)

is there any special constraints for the esophagus with varices ?
Dear colleagues, would you consider any special constraints to the esophagus in a patient with secondary esophageal varices to portal hypertension? for example when treating a T3N+ subglottic squamous cell carcinoma with concomitant chemo-radiation. Ty (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Thyroid Neck Recurrence
I got a guy that presented 2 years ago with metastatic thyroid cancer; they did a hemithyroidectomy at presentation to get more definitive diagnosis. Turned out to be hurthle cell ca. They did adjuvant RAI after this although the tumor wasn't hot for iodine uptake. There are 4 mets in the lungs that is it, they are about 1-2 cm and one is 2-3 cm. The primary grew back in the neck and is about 3-4 cm and up against the esophagus and not far from the right Bplexus. They could give systemics,...
