Cu-Catalyzed Hydrocarbonylative C –C Coupling of Terminal Alkynes with Alkyl Iodides
JacsCu-Catalyzed Hydrocarbonylative C –C Coupling of Terminal Alkynes with Alkyl Iodides:A Cu-catalyzed hydrocarbonylative C –C coupling of terminal alkynes with unactivated alkyl iodides has been developed, enabling highly chemo- and regioselective synthesis of unsymmetrical dialkyl ketones. A variety of functional groups are tolerated, and both primary and secondary alkyl iodides react well. (Source: Organometallic Current)

The Art of Persuasion
“You can’t think about it. You just have to do it. You said you were gonna do it. Like I don’t get why you aren’t.” Michelle Carter, found guilty of manslaughter, encouraged her boyfriend over text messages to commit suicide.   She texted him dozens of times saying things like: “You can’t keep living this way.” And, “Just do it, babe.” The messages continued for days until finally her boyfriend, Conrad Roy, died of carbon monoxide poisoning in his truck. One of the reasons this case is controversial is because Michelle Carter was not at the scene of the crime. She was put on trial for the power of her ...

Mild, Redox ‐Neutral Formylation of Aryl Chlorides through the Photocatalytic Generation of Chlorine Radicals
We report a redox ‐neutral formylation of aryl chlorides that proceeds through selective 2‐functionalization of 1,3‐dioxolane through nickel and photoredox catalysis. This scalable benchtop approach provides a distinct advantage over traditional reductive carbonylation in that no carbon monoxide, pressurized gas, or stoichiometric reductant is employed. Highly Efficient Carbon Monoxide Capture by Carbanion ‐Functionalized Ionic Liquids through C‐site Interactions
AngewchemHighly Efficient Carbon Monoxide Capture by Carbanion ‐Functionalized Ionic Liquids through C‐site Interactions: A novel method for the highly efficient and reversible capture of CO in carbanion ‐functionalized ionic liquids (ILs) by a C‐site interaction is reported. Because of its supernucleophilicity, the carbanion  in ILs could absorb CO efficiently. (Source: Organometallic Current)

Bioterrorism: 10 facts about sarin gas
As the civil war in Syria shows no signs of de-escalating, worrisome evidence points towards the deployment of chemical warfare with banned agents recently, resulting in almost a hundred deaths with more than a quarter of them children. Chlorine and Sarin gas are primarily being implicated. Here are ten facts to know about Sarin gas and how it works. 1. Historically, Sarin was used for bioterrorism by members of Aum Shinrikyo, a radical religious cult group in Japan, in 1994 and 1995 that collectively poisoned 6500 people on the subway. In 1998, Saddam Hussein used it against Iranians and Kurdish people. The Syrian governm...

A Stitch in Time
At first I thought the beeping was coming from the television. I had just settled back into the couch after tucking my daughter into bed for the second time. Her tummy was hurting. It had been doing that a lot lately. Especially on Sunday nights with the specter of Monday morning looming large. She was getting headaches, stomachaches, nausea. It had been going on for some time.My son is similar. His headaches and bellyaches come and go. He is famous for vomiting at any given moment and then feeling fine the next. And to think of it, we have all been under the weather lately.&nbs...

Elderly Home Safety Checklist 2021
Conclusion Aging in place gives senior citizens and elderly homeowners the freedom that is quite different from what they may experience in a senior facility. Home care for seniors living with family members or caregivers or being visited regularly by professional home care service providers beats any accommodation in nursing homes. Family members living with their aging parents can use the lists and safety tips discussed in this article when making a home safety assessment. These home safety tips can help seniors, particularly those with chronic pain, lead dignified and independent lives within the familiarity of their ho...

Proven to Protect You – The Ultimate Elderly Home Safety Checklist
A home safety checklist for seniors is a great way to assess an entire living space and determine where potential hazards could arise. Falls and injuries can occur in any room in the home. They are most prevalent in places like bathrooms and staircases, but hazards can be present in each and every room. It is important to make a list of all potential safety concerns and take preventative measures to address each and every one. Statistics About Home Safety According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), approximately 1.4 million seniors, age 65 or older, are treated in emergency rooms for injuries related t...
