Bribes and plasters won't do.
Abstract
I disagree with Graham Scott's editorial (9 August). We should not be bribing men into nursing, we should be fighting to reinstate the bursary for all healthcare students and be looking at the issues around gender stereotyping and perceptions relating to occupations.

Don't make an expensive mistake with tuition fees and loans.
Abstract
What will student tuition fees mean for nurses? From August, new nursing and midwifery students - and those entering most allied healthcare professions - no longer receive NHS bursaries and will have to pay tuition fees for their courses at English universities. They will have access to the student loans system available to other students. With yearly tuition costs of up to £9,250, plus means-tested maintenance loans, many nurses will start their careers with debts of £40,000 or more.

Political losses.
Abstract
I am gutted Labour didn't win the election, as they promised to reintroduce the bursary. I put my nursing degree on hold for 16 months due to my daughter's illness. The new term begins in September, but I have lost my bursary and maintenance grant entitlement. I can no longer afford to do the course.

Abstract
The Conservative party says there is no magic tree for public sector workers, so why is there a money tree for MPs and tax cuts for corporations and high earners? We have lost the bursary, and students will have to pay for their training. If pay stays the way it is, there will be consequences for the profession and the NHS. School leavers and mature students will not train to do a job that leaves them in debit and poor.

Fears 'double dose of debt' is deterring mature students.
Abstract
With the end of bursaries for nursing students in England a matter of weeks away, academics have told Nursing Standard of the need to ensure mature students are not put off by funding changes. About 6,000 fewer mature students have applied to start nursing courses this coming autumn compared with last year. Figures from the university admissions service UCAS show a 28% drop in the number of over-25s applying in England.

Conclusion
Future studies should be based in the prehospital environment and should investigate whether undertaking an electrocardiogram in the prehospital setting affects clinical management decisions or has an association with mortality or morbidity.
