Observations about Chicago
Before bed tonight, I walked the dog and it was 19 degrees outside. I didn't comprehend what that would be like in the WINDY CITY until I got outside - holy hell! People live like this? And survive? I don't know why it seemed so very cold, I've run in 25 degree weather in Dallas, but 19 and windy at night was something I was not prepared for at all! Mark ran this morning when it was a little bit icy on the roads - I thought he was crazy, but he's been coming to Chicago and running for five years now so he's used to the weather. Tuesday - Entry 21:I came home with the bestest ever Christmas present two weeks ago. Cardiac functional capacity :Do not under-estimate the value of 6 minute walk test !
6 minute walk test is the simplest of all functional testing in cardiac evaluation . Though walking is a routine day to day motion , it is essentially a hemo-dynamic stress for the heart , especially so for an ailing heart . Even though it appears simplest of all investigation there are strict guidelines available for performing this .
It is surprising American thoracic society has come out with a specific guideline for this .Many of us are not aware of existence of such guideline , hence this post , with courtesy of ATS I am giving a link.

Alzheimer's Aunt in Limbo
Finally one of Alzheimer's Aunt's (AA) children took her to a doctor. Not a competent doctor, not a geriatric doctor, not any kind of specialist, but an old quack whom my mom hates and believes contributed to the death of my dad's aunt (who also had dementia/Alzheimer's). This guy is old, he is incompetent, he doesn't care. And old ladies LOVE him. My grandma used to go to him and my mom made her change to a geriatric doctor who didn't enable her bad behavior.
