Today Is Life Optimizer ’s 10th Anniversary
Can you believe it? Today is Life Optimizer’s 10th anniversary! I started this blog on September 7, 2006 with this first post. Since then, I have published 755 posts, most of which I wrote myself. That’s a lot of writing! Ten years is a long time, especially in the Internet world. Back then I was still working on my master’s degree in Singapore. I had always been interested in personal effectiveness, so I thought, “Why not start a blog?” It wasn’t easy though. In the first few months, I barely had any readers. I worked hard writing my posts, but almost nobody read them. I remember feeling like I was speaking to...

4 Best Tips to Boost Productivity at Work
Note: This post is written by Joan Selby A productive member of society is the bastion of civilization. People that contribute little or nothing to society are a burden to it. That said, all work and no play make Jack a dull boy, so there’s no call to look down on people that want to have a little fun. However, productivity is critical to your work success. Whether you are a regular employee or self-employed, your level of productivity will determine how far you will go. It makes it easier to be productive when you like what you do, but no matter how much you love your work, sometimes you need an extra boost. Here are f...

5 Ways to Take Your Goals Seriously
Note: This post is written by Tom Casano It’s much easier to set a goal than follow through, correct? So what processes do you need to have in place to make sure those goals you made get reached? There’s one main reason why you don’t reach your goals and it’s probably because you don’t take them seriously – even if you think you do. Whether you don’t believe in your ability to reach that goal, or you simply fail to put in the work to reach that goal, you aren’t taking it seriously. If you took it seriously, you’d be on your way to achieving it or have it accomplished already. If you’re a good little...

When a Celebrity ’s Father Was Found Begging on the Street: 4 Lessons I Learned
A while back, there was a viral news story here in Indonesia: the father of a famous celebrity was found begging on the street. When the government’s social agency picked him up, he was in terrible condition. He didn’t have any belongings. He didn’t even have a single penny.  And he apparently hadn’t taken a shower for days. This became viral because his daughter is a famous celebrity with lots and lots of money. How could this happen? As it turns out, the celebrity’s father and mother divorced years ago when she was just 7 years old. Since then, the father worked odd jobs until one day he could no longer find a...

Having Some Fun: Playing Games
Life shouldn’t be serious all the time. We also need time to chill out and relax. Here I’d like to deviate a bit from my normal topics and talk about a favorite pastime of mine: playing games. I love playing games. In fact, I loved it so much that I learned to make my own games. That’s how I came to learn computer programming, beginning when I was in high school. There was a problem though: I spent so much time playing games that I barely accomplished anything at all. Back in those days, I could spend six hours straight playing games! I had a lot of fun but accomplished very little (except for making my own gam...

6 Signs Your Subconscious Negativity Is Sabotaging Your Well-Being (and How to Stop It)
Note: This post is written by Rick Riddle By the control of the subconscious mind, you get control over the conscious. ~ Swami Vivekananda Many years ago, Dr. Maxell Maltz, a well-known plastic surgeon in New York, wrote a book, called Psychocybernetics. In it he discussed the power of the subconscious in controlling our opinions of ourselves. He recounted many stories of people who came to him for plastic surgery of all varieties – some with ugly noses; some who had been disfigured in an accident; some who wanted to reverse the effects of aging. Some patients were thrilled with the results. Others, even though the resu...

From Good to Great: 6 Steps to Get in The Zone
Note: This post is written by Cris Antonio Imagine yourself going about your tasks as you normally would, but today, you feel everything around you begin to gradually fade out. It’s like becoming a third-party observer. There is no one else but you – just your hands and your body in motion. You know this process too well. The Importance of Habits and How to Build Them
We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit. ~ Aristotle Your habits play an important role in your life. Having good habits will lead you to an effective life. Having bad habits, on the other hand, will lead you to failures. So it’s essential that you build good habits. Scott Adams once said that “Losers have goals and winners have systems.” But what systems do you need to have? Well, I believe that one of them is a habit-building system. The reason? Because good habits don’t happen automatically. The fact is: we tend to choose the easy way. We tend to follow the path of least resis...

7 Life Lessons We Can Learn from The Jungle Book
Note: This post is written by Kamal Gill Have you ever re-watched a children’s movie and got more out of it as an adult than you previously did as a child? In honor of Rudyard Kipling’s story The Jungle Book recently hitting movie theatres across the globe; I thought I’d take a look back at the 1967 Walt Disney classic that warmed the hearts of many of us growing up. I remember watching this as a child a couple of times (okay maybe a couple of hundred times!) and absolutely loving it, so I thought I’d watch it again as an adult just for fun. I was surprised to notice many valuable lessons embedded into the story ...
