Perioperative steroid injection in elbow arthroscopy
Acta Orthop Belg. 2024 Mar;90(1):67-71. doi: 10.52628/90.1.12493.ABSTRACTThe goal of the present study was to evaluate the incidence of infection after perioperative intra-articular steroid injection during elbow arthroscopy. Starting from May 2019, we prospectively included all patients that underwent an elbow arthroscopy for various indications. All patients received preoperative antibiotics intravenously and a corticosteroid injection immediately after portal closure. Patients who needed ligamentous repair and aged below 18 years old were excluded. Final follow up of all patients was 3 months. In total, 108 elbow arthro...

Current Evidence Based Recommendations on Rehabilitation following Arthroscopic Shoulder Surgery: Rotator Cuff, Instability, Superior Labral Pathology, and Adhesive Capsulitis
AbstractPurpose of ReviewArthroscopy has become increasingly popular for a addressing a wide variety of shoulder pathology. However, despite increasing interest, there is still much uncertainty and variability amongst providers regarding optimal post-operative rehabilitation. This review provides an overview of the evidence underlying common rehab protocols used following arthroscopic interventions for rotator cuff disease, shoulder instability, superior labral anterior to posterior (SLAP) tears and adhesive capsulitis.Recent FindingsFor small and medium sized rotator cuff tears, early motion protocols do not seem to affec...

Evaluating The Effect of Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair with Concomitant Subacromial Decompression on 2, 4, and 6 Year Reoperation Rates
In this study, we compare mid-term revision surgery rates in patients undergoing arthroscopic RCR with or without concomitant ASD.METHODS: A retrospective cohort analysis was conducted using a national all-payer claims database. Current Procedural Terminology and International Classification of Disease, 10th Revision, codes were used to identify patients who underwent primary arthroscopic RCR with or without ASD in the United States. The primary study outcome was revision surgery at 2, 4, and 6 years. Univariate analysis was conducted on demographic variables (age, sex) and comorbidities in the Elixhauser Comorbidity Index...

Perioperative Use of Antibiotics as Infection Prophylaxis in Elective Wrist Arthroscopy: A Nationwide Survey
CONCLUSIONS: The use of PAP in wrist arthroscopies in Germany is inconsistent. The increased use in arthroscopies with bone involvement corresponds to AWMF guidelines, but a general recommendation for wrist arthroscopies, including soft tissue arthroscopies, is necessary to provide physicians with medical and legal certainty.PMID:38657620 | DOI:10.1055/a-2273-4864 (Source: Handchirurgie Mikrochirurgie Plastische Chirurgie)
