Rôle médiateur de la sursexualisation dans les liens entre l’attachement et l’engagement conjugal des jeunes adultes.

Sociocultural changes of recent decades have transformed the way young adults engage in their love relationships. Studies have revealed links between loving attachment and conjugal commitment. Yet the explanatory mechanisms of these links remain fragmented. The present study explores the mediating role of oversexualized behavior in the bonds of loving attachment and conjugal commitment of adults aged 18 to 30. To do this, 722 young Quebec adults living as couples were asked to complete online questionnaires. The results reveal that abandonment anxiety is directly and positively related to conjugal overcommitment and undercommitment, in addition to being indirectly related to overcommitment through sexual objectification and performance-based sexuality. Intimacy avoidance, on the other hand, is directly and negatively related to optimal commitment and positively related to conjugal undercommitment in addition to being indirectly related to both modes of commitment through a seductive attitude and a low intimate sense of sexuality. These findings highlight the contribution of oversexualized behaviors in understanding the links between attachment insecurities and commitment issues in young adults.
