Comment on: Defining Clinically Important Hypoglycemia in Patients with Post-Bariatric Hypoglycemia

Symptomatic postprandial hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia syndrome, or post-bariatric hypoglycemia (PBH), is a relatively uncommon condition that is clinically recognized 1-3 years after Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass (RYGB) and rarely Sleeve Gastrectomy (SG). Most patients respond to dietary modifications and medications. However, a small subset of patients develops recalcitrant hypoglycemia with neuroglycopenic (NG) symptoms such as reduced cognition, weakness, drowsiness, slurred speech, seizures, and loss of consciousness(1,2).
