Overcoming the low yield of histology for the diagnosis of cardiac sarcoidosis

Cardiac sarcoidosis (CS) is a rare type of inflammatory cardiomyopathy that presents most commonly with complete atrioventricular (AV) block, ventricular arrhythmias (VA), left ventricular systolic dysfunction (LVSD) and HF [1,2]. The hazard ratio (HR) in the population with sarcoidosis compared with a background population is 7.49 for the risk of HF, 6.95 for the risk of VA, cardiac arrest or need for an implantable cardioverter defibrillator, 3.25 for the risk of atrial fibrillation or flutter and 3.63 for the risk of mortality [3].
