Infant with “Ascites”

A 10-month-old boy presented with progressive generalized abdominal distension noted since 6 months of age. There was no history of jaundice, periorbital puffiness, sacral or pedal edema. There was no vomiting or constipation. Growth and development were appropriate for age. Examination revealed a non-tender distended abdomen with dull percussion note and positive fluid thrill. Ultrasonogram showed a large amount of free fluid in abdomen with internal echoes and septations. Hemogram, liver, renal, echocardiogram and urine routine examinations were normal.
