Delayed hypersensitivity reactions to multiple aromatase inhibitors followed by successful desensitization to letrozole

Aromatase inhibitors (AIs) are a class of medications that can suppress plasma estrogen levels by inhibiting or inactivating aromatase –the enzyme responsible for converting androgens to estrogens.1 They are the preferred adjuvant endocrine therapy for postmenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive breast cancer.2 Anastrozole, letrozole and exemestane are the commonly used third-generation AIs with similar efficacy and toler ability.1,2 If patients develop intolerable side effects with one AI, they can switch to a different one.
