Single-Cell Technologies and Analyses in Hematopoiesis and Hematological Malignancies

Traditional molecular characterization of differentiation processes within the hematopoietic system has relied on technologies that do not consider cell heterogeneity, providing measurements from pooled cell populations (bulk) in which the data represent an average of gene expression patterns and genomic features from thousands or even millions of cells (1). However, single-cell sequencing has revolutionized genomic studies by directly measuring sample heterogeneity, defining unique cell types and states at unparalleled high resolution, enabling the unbiased analysis of genomes, transcriptomes and epigenomes from individual cells (2).
