Human CD34-negative Hematopoietic Stem Cells: The Current Understanding of Their Biological Nature

Fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS) technology has markedly progressed over the past three decades. Consequently, it is now possible to prospectively purify murine and human hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) using a combination of suitable cell surface markers. The surface immuno-phenotype of murine HSCs has been thoroughly characterized, resulting in successful single-cell transplantation analyses.
