The STEMI/NonSTEMI Dichotomy needs to be replaced by Occlusion MI vs. Non-Occlusion MI
We agree with the authors that ST-elevation (STE) is a poor surrogate for acute coronary occlusion (ACO) causing myocardial infarction (MI) [1]. Unfortunately, the term “STEMI” makes us forget what we are after in the first place: ACO needing emergent reperfusion. Thus, we have been calling for a new ACO-MI (OMI for short)/non-OMI paradigm since 2018 [2].
