Evaluation of menopausal hormone therapy use in Korea (2002 –2013): A nationwide cohort study
Menopausal hormone therapy (MHT), also called hormone replacement therapy (HRT), is the most effective treatment for menopause-related symptoms and preventing bone loss and fracture [1]. Most women experience natural menopause before the age of 55 years [2,3]. In addition, it is known that 50% –80% of climacteric women experience vasomotor symptoms (VMS) such as hot flushes and night sweats, and the average duration of VMS is 7 years or more [4,5]. The use of MHT may be appropriate for treating women with VMS, GSM, long-term estrogen deficiency, and a variety of chronic diseases such as osteoporosis [1,4–12].
