The Effect of Bolus on Local Control for Patients Treated with Mastectomy and Radiotherapy
Bolus is often prescribed during postmastectomy radiotherapy for patients without skin involvement by breast cancer. Practice variations in prescribing bolus for patients treated with breast reconstruction at our institution allowed us to compare local recurrence and breast cancer mortality in patients treated with and without bolus. Bolus use did not reduce the cumulative incidence of either local recurrence or breast cancer mortality.
