Importance of hyperglycemia in COVID-19 intensive-care patients: Mechanism and treatment strategy

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a pandemic that has affected more than 57,000,000 cases and caused about 1,700,000 deaths as of 29 December 2020 [1]. Studies also showed that the rate of hospital admission among COVID-19 infected subjects is very variable ranged from 3% to 100% of confirmed cases. Studies showed that COVID-19 hospitalization rate in United States is above 15% [1]. Among those who are hospitalized, more than one fourth requires intensive care unit (ICU) admission, representing about 5% to 10 % of the total infected cases [2].
