Impact of Right Atrial Remodeling in Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction

Approximately one-half of heart failure (HF) patients have a preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF).1 The HFpEF pathophysiology is complex, and this disorder has been increasingly characterized as a heterogeneous syndrome that is caused or exacerbated by a variety of cardiac and extracardiac abnormalities.2,3 The importance of the right heart in HFpEF is currently well appreciated.4 Right ventricular (RV) dysfunction is common and contributes to reduced aerobic capacity and poor prognosis in patients with HFpEF.
