Research reveals compromised transfer of SARS-CoV-2-specific antibodies through placenta

(Massachusetts General Hospital) Lower than expected levels of protective SARS-CoV-2 antibodies pass through the placenta from mothers who are infected in the third trimester with the virus that causes COVID-19. This low level of transfer from mother to fetus may be caused by altered attachments of carbohydrates to the SARS-CoV-2-specific antibodies.
