Look at Both Sides of the Coin in Determining Risk of Complicated Crohn ’s Disease
We read with interest the recent paper by Yanai et al1 where they investigated the presence of predictors of early indolent course of Crohn’s disease (CD) using an inception cohort from Israel. Among multiple patient characteristics, genetic variants, and laboratory parameters, a less aggressive disease course was predicted with high accuracy ba sed on 4 easily available factors: (1) low body mass index, (2) low vitamin B12 levels, (3) elevated alanine aminotransferase, and (4) high white blood cell count.
