It is composed of various phytochemicals, which contribute to its wide-ranging function and clinical use. It has various mechanisms of action including direct anti-inflammatory, anti-pruritic, anti-oxidant, anti-fungal, pre-biotic, barrier repair properties, and beneficial effects on skin pH. These have been shown to be of particular benefit in the treatment of atopic dermatitis. In Part 1 of this two-part series, we will explore the history of colloidal oatmeal, basic science, mechanism of action, and clinical efficacy in the treatment of atopic dermatitis. Researchers here note that delivering metformin via injection rather than the usual oral administration removes unwanted side-effects and better improves cognitive function in old mice. Near all testing of metformin has used oral administration, and the effects on pace of aging and life span are, frankly, too unreliable and too small to justify the present level of interest in the drug on the part of the longevity community. The clinical efficacy of Av ène thermal spring water in atopic dermatitis, psoriasis or in reducing erythema post laser resurfacing have been shown by several studies. In addition to these soothing and immunomodulatory properties, in-vitro experiments have also demonstrated effects of Avène thermal spring water on stimulatio n of keratinocyte differentiation and improvement of membrane fluidity, suggesting a potential effect on skin barrier and repair. An investigation of the deep aquifer of the Avène thermal spring water pointed out a new microorganism as a potential source of these unique properties.

LEDs phototherapy has also been documented in relieving hyperpigmentation in clinical practice, suggesting the effect of downregulating melanogenesis [7].
