Modelling paternal exposure as a negative control
We read with interest the article by Cohenet al. using the large Norwegian Mother, Father and Child Cohort Study (MoBa) to assess the potential causal association between maternal anti-depressant use during pregnancy and shorter gestational length and child anxiety by using a paternal negative control.1 However, we have some concerns about the conclusion for child anxiety and about the causal diagram proposed for the negative control.
