Broadly defined, electronic health records (EHR) represent longitudinal data, in electronic format, that are collected during routine delivery of care [1]. Although the data generated in EHRs are primarily for patient care, they can be used for clinical research. A registry is an organized system that uses observational study methods to collect uniform data to evaluate specified outcomes for a population defined by a particular disease, condition or exposure and serves one or more predetermined purposes [2].
