Trends in Heart Dose Metrics for Left-Sided Breast Cancer Patients Receiving Radiotherapy: A Decade in Review (2011-2018)
It is well established in the literature that cardiac episodes in left-sided breast cancer patients undergoing radiation therapy (RT) are directly linked to increases in heart dose. Based on this published data, our centre adopted specific RTOG guidelines such as 3Gy and 5Gy MHD limits for all breast RT patients. The purpose of the study was to evaluate and identify factors associated with MHD in patients treated between 2011-2018. Also to analysis how increased trends over the years in heart-sparing techniques such as Breathold (BH) and Prone breast (PB) affected MHD outcomes.
