How to deal with challenges in laparoscopic hysterectomy
AbstractHysterectomy is one of the most common surgical procedures performed by gynaecologists. Using laparoscopy has the advantages of short hospital stay, rapid recovery, rapid return to usual activities, fewer wound complications and less postoperative pain.1 Although there are few contraindications to laparoscopic hysterectomy, challenges including obesity, large uterus, adhesions from previous surgeries (in particular, previous bowel surgeries), narrow vagina, pelvic varicosities, early stage endometrial cancer and deep infiltrating endometriosis mean that specific training and surgical skills are required to complete the procedure safely.
