Letter to the editor regarding ‘Changes in differential renal function after pyeloplasty in infants and children’ by Josefin Nordenström, Giasemi Koutozi, Gundela Holmdahl, Kate Abrahamsson, Rune Sixt, Sofia Sjöström [1]

We read the manuscript of Nordenstr öm et al [1] with great interest since we have studied too, infants and children with ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJO) before and after pyeloplasty [2]. The authors present a retrospective study of 85 children treated with dismembered pyeloplasty for UPJO who were followed up as per a stru ctured protocol including ultrasounds and renal scans (MAG-3) pre-operatively and postoperatively [1]. They conclude that the majority of children had preserved or improved function after surgery for UPJO and that high anteroposterior diameter of the renal pelvis (APD), antenatal diagnosis, and low pre-operative differential renal function (DRF) were independent predictive factors of an improvement in renal function after pyeloplasty [1].
