In conclusion, we postulate that the description of the sexual phenotype of DSD females (enlarged clitoris and presence of testicular tissue) does not distinguish between hereditary XX DSD and nonhereditary freemartinism. Cytogenetic and molecular analyses are thus necessary to correctly diagnose such cases.
