Is CMR the gold standard for evaluating transvalvular flow?

The rapid development, over the past 10  years, of novel transvascular devices to treat valvular heart disease, has placed assessment of valve disease severity into the spotlight. For the past 30 or so years, echo-Doppler has been the mainstay of valvular assessment. Despite improvements in equipment and advent of 3D ultrasound, echo-Do ppler remains largely semiquantitative [1], for most valve pathologies. There is a growing need for objective, reproducible quantifiable measures for grading valve severity, with less reliance on untenable assumptions.
