This study aimed to clarify the risk factors of head and neck cancer (HNC) mortality, relative to those of all-cause and all-cancer mortalities, using the Korean National Health Insurance Service-Health Screening Cohort (NHIS-HEALS) data set. Data from 238 HNC deaths, 14,769 all-cancer deaths, and 38,086 all-cause deaths were extracted during a median follow-up period of 9.5 years. Baseline characteristics were assessed via chi-square tests, t tests, and multivariable logistic regression. HNC mortality was found to be positively associated with male sex, past and current smoking habits, moderate-to-heavy alcohol consumptio...

Bone turnover suppression agents are widely used for prophylaxis of bone metastases from cancer and osteoporosis; the occurrence of their side effect, antiresorptive agent-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (ARONJ), has been increasing. We investigated the relationships between opacification in the nasal sinuses, rhinosinusitis, and ARONJ based on data obtained from oral surgeons.

Abstract In various cancers, high-grade tumor and poor survival rate in patients with upregulated lncRNAs UCA1 have been confirmed. Urothelial carcinoma associated 1 (UCA1) is an oncogenic non-coding RNA with a length of more than 200 nucleotides. The UCA1 regulate critical biological processes that are involved in cancer progression, including cancer cell growth, invasion, migration, metastasis, and angiogenesis. So It should not surprise that UCA1 overexpresses in variety of cancers type, including pancreatic cancer, ovarian cancer, gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, endometrial c...

Conclusion: The result from our meta-analysis supports our hypothesis that alcohol consumption increases the risk of cancer, implying immediate cessation of the habit for cancer risk reduction.

RARITAN, NJ, June 13, 2020 – The Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson &Johnson announced today results from the first randomized Phase 3 study investigating subcutaneous daratumumab[i] in the treatment of patients with newly diagnosed light chain (AL) amyloidosis, a rare and potentially fatal disease.[1],[2] The data demonstrated subcutaneous daratumumab in combination with cyclophosphamide, bortezomib, and dexamethasone (D-CyBorD) resulted in a higher hematologic complete response rate (CR), (53 percent vs. 18 percent [P

CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated no statistically significant changes over time in HRQL and perceptual voice quality at pre-radiotherapy compared to 24 months post-radiotherapy. However, the values remain inferior to the voices of healthy controls or a normal population. PMID: 32484410 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

In conclusion, although salvage surgery for structural recurrence of PTC has a high risk of complications, it may be worthwhile when macroscopic curative resection is available. The decision should be made considering various factors including curability, risk of surgical procedure, functional outcome, and life expectancy. PMID: 32461508 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Abstract Head and neck cancer (HNC), which includes epithelial malignancies of the upper aerodigestive tract (oral cavity, oropharynx, pharynx, hypopharynx, larynx, and thyroid), are slowly but consistently increasing, while the overall survival rate remains unsatisfactory. Because of the multifunctional anatomical intricacies of the head and neck, disease progression and therapy-related side effects often severely affect the patient's appearance and self-image, as well as their ability to breathe, speak, and swallow. Patients with HNC require a multidisciplinary approach involving surgery, radiation therapy, and ...
