Impact of smoking on gestational diabetes mellitus and offspring birthweight in primiparous women

ConclusionsSmoking during pregnancy is associated with an increased risk for GDM. Offspring birthweight is lowest in women, who continue smoking after the first trimester. If pregnancy is complicated by GDM, offspring birthweight is not influenced by smoking.

This study aimed to compare the effect of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) with moderate-intensity continuous training (MCT) on endothelial function, oxidative stress and clinical fitness in patients with type 1 diabetes. Conclusions: A diagnostic tool based on FA in the fingerprints of finger pair IV, measured using a wavelet analysis could be developed for predicting risk prior to associated health problems for both T2DM and T1DM. In addition, given that that the prints for fingers IV and V develop during the 14-17 weeks of gestation, we predict that interventions during this time period of pregnancy will be most successful.

Conclusion This cohort study suggests that babies of women diagnosed with gestational diabetes at 28 weeks or later may have already started to grow abnormally large for their age. Not every baby was affected, but the risk of a larger baby was higher in women who developed diabetes, and the changes had happened before they were diagnosed.
