The current landscape of psoriasis genetics in 2020

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disease of the skin and joints that is strongly associated with the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) region [1]; it is estimated to affect more than 125 million people worldwide [2]. The most common type of psoriasis is chronic plaque psoriasis (also known as psoriasis vulgaris: PV), which accounts for about 90 % of cases [1]. Approximately 6 % –42 % of psoriasis patients are also affected by chronic arthritis (psoriatic arthritis: PsA) in their lifetime [3].
